Sorry to hear about the latest round of fires (and noxious smoke).

Hope everybody is safe and remains so!

I read there are two fires burning today in the IE. Where are they and where are people being forced to deal with awful, nasty smoke? (I've lived in CO so I know about fires...)

What is it like in the CV? PS? PD? DHS? Is the air nasty and smoky?

Again, a quick prayer for everyone and especially the firefighters.

Was smoky and ashy in the San Jacinto/Hemet valley this AM, but cleared by noon - don't know where the smoke is going now. That fire was/is about 10 miles east of Hemet, at the foot of Hwy 79 before it goes up the hill to Idyllwild.

It's called the Cottonwood Fire, and last I saw it was at 1200 acres burned. No injuries so far, some voluntary evacuations.

It's a little smoky here, but not too bad. I didn't have to wear a gas mask to leave my house or anything like that.

Wow, well the wildfire near Hemet is no biggie thank goodness is my understanding.

That Station Fire behind Burbank & Glendale, Tujunga, Cresenta-Canada-Flintridge, and Pasadena-Altadena is HUGE!

ALL THE TRAILS I HIKED WHEN I LIVED IN HOLLYWOOD FOR 2 MONTHS ARE ON FIRE RIGHT NOW!! All of them! I never hiked the Santa Monicas around Hollywoodland. I prefer the high altitudes and enjoyed the epic spectacular views around Mt. Lowe, Mt. San Gabriel and Sister Elsie (aka Mt. Lukens). I hope all those radio towers on the peaks up there aren't melting down and the horses and everybody are OK.

Pardon my mid west ignorance, but I've been following these fires and I still can't figure out why they call it "Station Fire"

The Station fire was reported at 3:30 pm on Aug. 26, near the intersection of Hwy 2 and Hwy 210, 1.5 miles north of USFS Angeles Crest Station, hence it's name.

Yes, when there are multiple fires burning, they have to name them so they can talk about them on the news, so wherever they start is where they get the name from. They do often seem a little silly or random.

And I know this is going to sound crazy, but I've been following national weather forecasts, etc. and the effects of the fires (smoke, air quality) are being seen and felt as far east as Colorado and Texas. That's pretty incredible!
