I'm 26 and relocating for a job in Oceanside. I'd like to find an apartment in a relatively safe neighborhood close by AND also suitable for a single, young female professional. Prefer rent under 1200/mo, and will consider moving more inland. I've been reading some of the threads here and it seems like what I'm looking for may be hard to find. Is Carlsbad Village any good? Some people on this forum mentioned spots in Encinitas that may be good, but where exactly? Also I read that although Oceanside can be unsafe, there's some good spots also, can anyone tell me where to look exactly? FYI I like walking to boutiques and hanging out in coffee shops...and of course the beach but as long as the area has some hustle and bustle going on, people around my age, diversity etc...Thanks in advance!

No on Oceanside. Encinitas is a beautiful community and safer for a young woman.

For boutiques and coffee shops, it's hard to beat either Carlsbad Village, Leucadia, downtown Encinitas, Cardiff, parts of Solana Beach (by the Cedros Design District), and Del Mar.

Ditto Encinitan's recommendations. South OC is nice too.

However, $1200 a month is going to be a limiting factor (in a big way).

I would stay out of O-side. It's not ghetto, but it's probably not what you are looking for. Cardiff would be my best No County coastal recommendation. I have 3 friends who live there who each pay around $1000/mo w/ocean views. Of course, they each have roommates.

Other suggested Encinitas which is a good choice. Leucadia is part of Encinitas and is affordable and near the beach. Also worth checking out.
