El Cule,

As the others have mentioned, you will DEFINITELY need a car. I've been to Barcelona many times and really enjoyed my time there. But San Diego is nothing like these European cities that have really excellent public transportation and a wide coverage all over. You won't find that in San Diego for the most part. So definitely get a car.

As the others mentioned, you probably have a bigger base of people that follow soccer in San Diego compared to many other American cities but it's NOTHING like in Europe or South America. In Argentina where I lived before, people are totally crazy about soccer. It's to the point even during the World Cup where teachers put TV's in the classrooms and when Argentina is playing, they force the kids to watch and don't teach! Even if the kids aren't interested. The entire city shuts down. In my office, people come to work during the World Cup but they bring TV's so they can watch.

You won't find those types of things happening in San Diego.
