Definitely I agree with you Oerdin. While I doubt that I'll spend any time in TJ, we spend lots of time in Mexico vacationing. And most of these people getting killed are involved in the drug trade somehow. Obviously there are exceptions to this rule but for the most part that is true.

Again, I doubt these people killed were just killed randomly. Definitely smells of a drug related hit.

I really needed this thread today because we are planning to go to TJ this Sat for dental work. 4,000 vs. 600 is a big difference for us. We are to cross - by foot - and wait at the McDonald's for his assistant to pick us up. Sad we even have to worry about this trip and much more sad for the merchants and business owners in TJ.

You'll be totally fine. I wouldn't worry one bit about your trip. Seriously. And walking back across is a snap.

It *is* rough for the merchants now, half of the shops are closed, and there's almost no touristas down there even on a Saturday night.

The local kids have started going out downtown, though, and having shows and stuff at the local clubs, and TJ is trying to reinvent itself and rise from the ashes... Lots of street fairs that the locals are attending, murals on the roll-up doors of the abandoned shops along Revolucion. We'll see how this plays out.

I was just 5 miles into the middle class area of TJ, I walked in from the border to visit friends.

It is dangerous, but not that crazy. Don't dress ridiculously.

Current news (per KOGO) is that it was a relationship gone bad.

Apparently one of the guys in the truck found his girlfriend with another guy.

Who knows how accurate that story really is at this point, but the underlying premise is that this was not a drug hit.

Anyway you slice it, TJ is not a place I would want to send my wife and children for the evening.
