We were in the San Diego area checking it out for a potential relocation and driving back from Scripps Ranch along Miramar when the oddest plane starting flying above the street. It looked like a small biplane except instead of engines, it had a rotor above each wing! Like a biplane helicopter, I guess. Does anyone know what that is?

Also was very impressed with a hillside of topiary in Midtown on Union Street. I guess it was someone's private hillside but it beat any public display I ever saw. Any story on that?

I am so ready to move but still have to convince my husband that we can afford it. Loved the Mission Hills neighborhood; also considering North Park, University City, and Carmel Valley. No decisions until later this summer but hoping like crazy he agrees. Our other option is Portland, OR (http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUrl?from=ShowTopic&url=%2FTourism-g52024-Portland_Oregon-Vacations.html - broken link). Or to stay in Illinois, from which I've been wanting to leave for the last 5 years.

That's what it is. A lot of them have been flying around Miramar in the last couple of years.

Yup, Osprey. Great idea but terrible historical safety rating. I hope they worked out the avionic gremlins in these, since they are so expensive ($70M a pop). Their saving grace is their superior capabilities over all the other helos out there, since most US military helicopter designs dates back to the Vietnam war, minus the Comanche and whatever stealth helo was used to tport SEALS in the Bin Laden raid. Heck, the Apache is nearing 20 years old.

The topiary is at Union and Vine. Saw the Osprey today as well with some gliders from the port in a good wind.

Thanks, it was the Osprey. I thought for a second that it was going to land on the road! Also I found an article on the topiary; privately owned and done just for fun. Very impressive!
