I want to switch to the iPhone 4S, and am debating whether to go with Verizon, AT&T or Sprint. Each seems to have their pro's and con's, so what it really comes down to for me is who has the best voice service and fastest 3G speeds in Pacific Beach, where I live. Can anyone who's used the iPhone in PB on one of these networks comment on voice / data coverage?

Thanks!

Note: I've made similar posts on this topic before but didn't get a great response, so I was hoping I'd broaden the question from a carrier perspective and narrow it to be just about the iPhone to see if I have better luck

Not Sprint, generally the 3rd best coverage in all of San Diego.

Verizon seems to be better in East County and some particularly hilly regions. AT&T seems to be on par with Verizon in the metro areas, and definitely have better coverage in some of the beach areas in my experience.

And pricing can be pretty far apart too.

Why don't you just wait for the iPhone 5?
If you're a data hog sprint will be your best choice (no tiered data)
If you care about actually using the phone for what it's for
It will Verizon followed by at@t!

And if you want to compare plans go into actually store or Google it

I guess if the iPhone 5 is coming out pretty soon, maybe I should wait for it...

Still leaves the question of who has the best service though. From what I hear it sounds like I should go with Verizon.

LIke I said, the plan prices vary widely but if you don't care how much you spend than I'd go with Verizon. I have the cheaper Sprint plan but the coverage in the sticks sucks. It's just fine for in town though.

I have iPhone 4S with Sprint. While I gives me what is acceptable (4S+"unlimited data plan"), i would wait for an iPhone that works on a 4G/LTE Verizon network. While I think Sprint has the most 4G/LTE potential, it's at least 5 years before it reaches current Verizon coverage. Sprint coverage in SD county s-u-c-k-s.

Look at it this way, when Apple decides to offer the new iPad on with Sprint 4G/LTE plan, then go for it if they still offer an unlimited data plan. Otherwise, wait for the next network that supports the iPhone 4G/LTE--that is that next standard and you are only 1-1.5 year out. Go cheap until then, Siri would agree too --FYI Siri is still rudimentary (no substitute for car cordless ear/mic) so don't believe the hype; go to an apple store to get you Siri desires met for the time being until 4G gives it improved artificial intelligence/voice recognition capacity.

Thanks guys. I ended up going with Verizon and so far I'm very happy with it. It actually turns out that Sprint charges $10 more per month than Verizon for tethering (a must-have feature for me), so when you factor that in Verizon only costs $10 more per month, well worth it given their superior coverage.

SD is a test market for Verizon. Qualcomm is headquartered here and they have a large stake in Verizon's success. Sprint is in the game too, but not around these parts.

Just by a networks inherent nature in a place like SD (hilly, lots of peaks and dips) 850mhz performs the best. All of which are home bands to Verizon and ATT.

So just like Verizon is to Sprint in network coverage, ATT is to T-Mobile in network coverage around here.
VZ is the overall winner though.

Have fun with your iPhone.
