But seriously unless you are working for Nike or Intel I am not sure anyone there actually has a job, I always though the economy there was white collar guy > stripper > hairdresser > bartender > barista > homeless

I don't know about that, but I have never seen so many people that are proud of being homeless. I'm not saying everyone should not respect themselves and most certainly be treated with respect,Especially when they have fallen upon hard times...but I get the
feeling there it's a OK to smuggly sing and play guitar off key on the corner and expect a beanie full of coins from the evil working man/women walking by. And enough with the hacky sack. It's over for at least a decade. But other than that, I love Portland!

The term is not "homeless", it is "urban outdoorsman". Unbelievable but people actually used that term when I lived in the Bay Area.
