My husband and our 3 small children live in the portland area. We REALLY want to move to san diego and have started planning and making the necessary savings to move. We should be moving in the next 3 months. Questions are; is San diego a family friendly town? we are 30 yrs old and our kids are 10, 4, 5months so we are past partying and nightlife and more into picnics and playing. Also, is the lifestyle incredibly diffrent? we are very laid back and mello and am hoping we dont stick out like sore thumbs in the hustle bustle of So cal. Are the people friendly? I also am seeing it is not nearly as expensive as many people say, is this true? Is it generally more expensive in california than other places? are the taxes etc higher there? any other info would be awesome! thanks!

Yes, San Diego is very family friendly. Especially the north county areas.

I am a nurse so will get a job closer to time since there are plenty. My husband is a 12 year journeyman sheetmetal worker and there are a couple shops down there, he will definately have a job set up before we go. We are thinking he will go down for a month or 2 and make sure the job is solid before we all move down.

North county covers a big area. Both coastal and inland. Your rental budget and size requirements will somewhat determine where you live. What's your budget? How big of a place do you need?

$1800 for a 4 bedroom house, might be doable in an older section of Poway. Not familiar with Vista, but also look into the nicer areas of San Marcos. Why the rush to buy so soon? To be honest, you won't find anything in a desirable area for less than $300k. East Chula Vista might be a good option, but don't know how the schools are. Good luck.
