Just moved. Hooked up the modem and router. Got the bill. $30 charge for self installation of internet. Really can't stand them, but we have no choice.

Such a racket. I have no choice but to use them, it stinks.

Did you call them? I called TW and it was a mistake on the bill and they reversed it. What I still got charged for was something I wasn't aware of. They still roll a truck to turn it on from the pole to the house so even though it's a self install that part only counts from their tap to the modem/router. I saw that a full install was pretty pricey in comparison.

They all gotcha no matter who you use. I got whacked with some invisible fees by Sprint too after we got new phones and a new plan.

There's a bunch of other internet providers. There's other cable providers, as well.

Sometimes Apartment complexes only support 1 provider (yeah right).

We have Time Warner Cable, I can't stand them either. They nickel and dime you any way they can. If DirectTV had fast internet, I'd jump ship.

Franchise agreements. That's where the City gets their cut even though they have no skin in the game. Nice huh?

Oh. Wow. I've never heard of that. But I've never lived in a large apartment complex.

Even so, you're not *forced* to use that cable provider. Cable's not a necessity.

I could use my phone for everything if I wanted Regardless, there are all kinds of fees and crap the Cities get so Companies are kind of at their mercy as to who gets to sell what in what area. That plus Federal and State Govt have their say as to how much they must give in services to poor and regulate how much infrastructure they must build out before they can even start selling services.

I'm not arguing that. My argument is that nobody *has* to use those cable providers. Cable isn't a utility, nor is it a necessity.
