maybe, but i dont think so.

LA/OC beaches are still in low to mid 70s water temps.

For example Laguna is at 73 F, and Palos Verdes is at 72 F, malibu at 71 F, Newport beach 72 F ...

I went to OB last Sunday and stuck my feet in, and it was still so warm I wanted to just dive on in. I almost cried. I haven't been allowed in the ocean this summer (because I'm immunosuppressive from the chemo, but I'm almost done!) and that's the ONE thing that's just been killing me. I'm normally in the water all summer on a normal year, and the temps this summer just sounded like HEAVEN, so it's like adding insult to injury

I don't know if it was record-breaking, but it must be up there. I understand the whole west coast is having an incredible year. Monterey, for example, had water temperatures in the upper 60 s for extended periods and I believe the same happened around San Francisco. I've also been reading about the warm nighttime temperatures near coast as a result of the warm water this year. San Diego has had way more nights above 70 degrees than it has in many years, and a number of coastal reporting stations in Northern California have had the biggest stretch of nighttime temperatures in the 60s that they have ever had. it seems that this summer, Southern California has been getting Baja water temps, NorCal has been getting SoCal water temps, and the Pacific Northwest has been getting NorCal water temps, with the weather that comes along with it.

It's hard to say when something is happening for the first time. Climate change will certainly affect ocean currents- and it's way too complicated to go into here, but ocean currents/heat circulation in the oceans in inextricably tied to atmospheric conditions- so it could be a result of a longer- term situation or it could just be a blip. I'm certain scientists are working very hard to find an answer to that. I'm equally certain that nobody on this board has that answer.

I can't remember there being a longer stretch of 70+ temps either. I checked the earlier today for Mission Beach and it's still 72 degrees.
