I don't how many of you surf or swim in the ocean, but in the last week, the temperature has spiked about 10 degrees. As recently as last weekend it was in the low 60s and today it was about 70. It's like bathwater, especially in the afternoons when the sun is out. And we've actually had some surf to go with it, which makes it that much better. They're saying the warm water should be here to stay for a while and with El Nino predicted, maybe into November, which would be awesome. So everyone who says the water in SD never gets warm, get out there and enjoy it!!

The past 2 or so weeks have been great in the water! Other parts of the county have been in the upper 60's/low 70's since the week after July 4th with many spots over the past week in the mid 70's too.

On Sunday the main Mission Beach lifeguard station recorded the water temp at 76! and usually MB is one of the colder beaches for water temps.

Scripps Pier right now (130p) is at 75.6: US NODC Coastal Water Temperature Guide

I hope this warm water lasts through summer and we don't get a big cold spike like we did around 4th of July weekend.

People back East are laughing that people at the SW corner of the US are excited about 70F water.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

There is a reason the wet suit was invented in California.

Kind of like how Southern Californians laugh at the notion of "going to the beach" in Northern CA? Please, surfers in the Bay Area get excited about 60 degree water and for what? You still gotta wear a wet suit no matter what.

Ocean temps have been great this past week at PB.

Also, this past weekend's swell made the waves great for surfing and boogie boarding!

There's a big difference between 70 and 76, BTW (even 74 and 75)

Went to Scripps yesterday after work and it was 76.3! Stayed in the water till about 7:45pm. Waves were crappy, but the water was warm. When the clouds rolled in, it felt warmer in the water than out.

No kidding! I just checked the temps for Bodega and Monterey Bay, and saw that it was 52.9 and 55.6, respectively. Who's laughing now?

The surf has certainly come back down to normal since last weekend's swell, but at least the water's warm when you're waiting 10 minutes between sets!

77 degree water temp in San Clemente today! I wonder if some spots will possibly hit 80 this summer, I believe it did a few years ago in Huntington and La Jolla.
