Moving to San Diego from Alaska within the next 30 days.

Recieved a job offer and they are moving the process along much quicker than I initially anticipated.

Will be working at San Diego INTL airport.

Any advice as far as public transport or most importantly neighbors/areas to rent would be greatly appreciated!

I've been to San diego a few times but I am far from an expert and any local input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Cerine

Public transport to airport is poor.
If not limited by that, many options including as far away as Carlsbad north and San Ysidro south and communities east.
What is your personal situation and what are your other preferences and restraints?

Have you ruled out getting a car right away as it will open things up significantly for you including your free time?
What type of work at airport?
Is there a bus that goes from Santa Fe station to the airport, folks??

Yeah, you can get from one to the other via bus if you walk a couple of blocks. I don't recall which bus specifically, though.

You can pick up the 992 anywhere from Smart Corner (City College) along Broadway downtown, (which runs along Sante Fe Depot to the South) to all terminals to the airport. Which means you can also transfer from most of the urban bus routes that run along Broadway: 2, 7, 11, 15, etc...

The 992 stops every 15 minutes at Lindberg Field Terminals and Santa Fe Train Depot. I remember the bus had a huge rack for luggage so I think it goes exclusively back and forth between train/Trolley stop and the Airport.

I once flew back to SD early in the morning, hopped on the 992, tranfered at the Santa Fe Depot and went straight to work on The Trolley. That was a long commute that day.

You're going to want to get a car in San Diego. That said, close to the airport, you can rent an apartment in Little Italy and get by with a bike for a few months.
