I know the ruling was significant on paper but alas, it's just paper.

Are any real world people getting concealed carry permits issued or is it just the mayor and his friend still?

I heard Orange County is still only issuing to the politically powerful. Is this still the case in San Diego?

Thanks.

We don't want people carrying guns around here. If you don't like it move some where else, tough guy.

Laws have been passed, but the paperwork will be in system for years. All you can do is get your application in and wait, like the rest of us.

I see a perfect way to save the taxpayers money. Slash he budget for processing these applications to nothing.

Thanks for summarizing the anti gun position. Hope you never run into trouble.

The mayor has nothing to do with the issuance of a CCW in San Diego. The San Diego County Sheriff is the granting authority for the whole county. Generally there are three criteria for obtaining a CCW:

Good morale character
Cause
Residency

Cause is what will get you denied. You have to be able to articulate your case and need for carrying a concealed weapon. The standard is high and you must have proof of your need. Most are denied.

I am not anti-gun. I am anti-concealed carry at least as far as I want people to demonstrate both a need and a competence preferably with an extremely lengthy and detailed written exam where as getting the wrong answer on any one question disqualifies people. Sure, you can own any legal gun you want as long as you keep it in your home or use it only in authorized areas but I don't want any old moron being able to walk around with a gun stuffed down their trossers.

Especially since virtually every state with weak concealed carry laws saw a jump in murder rates as soon as the laws for CC was weakened. Hell, some states, like Missouri, even allow anyone who wants one to even concealed carry into bars and despite the claims of the obsessive gun nuts that it wouldn't happen people did indeed drink, get into fights, and then have shoot outs. The murder rate went up the very year Missouri weakened laws against such things. No, thank you, we don't need that here especially since this city already has the lowest violent crime rate of any major city in the country. Sadly, that is still twice as high as the Canadian average due to Canada's far more rational regulations on firearms including having rational concealed carry laws.

As they should be. Yes, this is a may issue county not a shall issue nor a shall not issue and it is all controlled by the county government. Sadly, there is no mental health check required nor even a competency test on knowledge of gun laws. Both should be required and the cause section should be highly restricted.

No unloaded open carry = CCW, get used to it. Those that fought against unloaded open carry deserve this.

OP, you'll have to wait until the speed bump that brought up last second objections and petitioned gets shot down it court. Pun intended.

People think it's easy to get CCW, it's not, even in shall issue. Join us at Calguns for updates.

It is extremely easy in many states and even in some counties in California as the state leaves it up to counties. That said, one of the reason San Diego is perennially the safest large city in America (for violent crime) is because this county, and most of the surrounding counties, have made it difficult to legally conceal a firearm on your person. Yes, son, fewer people with guns stuffed down their trousers does indeed mean less gun violence. This county has required that people demonstrate a need to get a permit to CC and it has worked extremely well so I don't want to mess up a winning equation.

The longer we can stall and delay on the stupid appeals court ruling the more likely we can keep our winning equation as it will either get over turned or the state/county governments can come up with new laws which pass court muster but which still keep CC guns out of the hands of the loonies. That's a very good thing.
