I think that the Reuben sandwich is the best sandwich in SD.

I've never gotten sick in 30 years of going down there and all of them are licensed and inspected but if you are concerned then just make sure they put it on the grill for a few minutes as that will heat things up and kill any bacteria. Also it is part of the culture down there to eat at street carts as they're dirt cheap but many offer gourmet options and since they're so popular their turn over of food is very fast. It generally doesn't site around very long.

There are several blogs where people review the dozens and dozens of different food carts down there and you'll get a good idea of which ones are best just by doing a quick google search.

Who has the best Reuben? I'm a fan of the NY on Rye food truck but I haven't found many other places that have a proper Reuben (with sauerkraut, corned beef, and russian dressing).

I'm think D.Z. Akins has the best Ruben plus several of the professional reviews done in the past have named it number one.

Will have to try DZ's for a Reuben sandwich. I was none too impressed with their staple deli offering of Matzo Ball soup. Rye bread was meh.

The lack of a proper proper Jewish deli was always surprising to me. Maybe we dont have the density of Jews in San Diego like LA to warrant that kind of establishment?
The absolute best Reuben I have had on the west coast was in Beverly Hills. Nate and Al's.

If I recall one of the more polished restauranteurs here in San Diego is actually developing a deli themed restaurant called Rare Form which will borrow from Langer's in LA.

Here's a twist. I just had a Philly Cheese at the Elbow Room bar and grill. It was the best I've found here in SD.

What I like about Langer's in LA is they don't keep kosher so you can get melted cheese on your Ruben.

I went to Rare Form recently and liked my sandwich, along with their homemade potato chips. Cool space and they are open every night till midnight and 2am on weekends.

Other places I like are BFD, Supernatural, Rubicon and The District. The chicken and waffle sandwich at Bruxie is pretty darn good, too.

Straying a little here.....

So Huffington Post just named the 11 greatest foodie cities in America, and SD is one of them. I wonder if this list is from the same people who said SD had the best pizza in the country last year?
