Moving to SD and would like to know where the better cities are for hospitals, walking, biking, trolly, within 20 min to the beach, $1500 rent for 1bdrm for me and wife in our mid and late twenties. Nice area with little crime, lakes, mountains, and parks. Thank you the VA hospital or a good hospital nearby will be great.

Check out the 92122 zip code (University City) area. Apartments for Rent in University City, San Diego, CA - 23 Rentals . As you can see there are apartments within your budget. You would be within a short drive of the beach, and close to the VA hospital as well as to Scripps Hospital. Shopping is near by. But not that walkable.

Other, more walkable and more convenient to public transportation, areas would be Hillcrest North Park (and near by areas) Apartments for Rent in Hillcrest, San Diego, CA - 23 Rentals
Apartments for Rent in North Park, San Diego, CA - 44 Rentals These area would be more walkable. The closest hospitals would be Balboa Naval and Mercy.
