We are doing our first "house hunting trip" next week, and we have a long list of homes to see. A few seem to not have AC. We have visited SD area a few times, but I am not sure if AC would be necessary.
Do you think in areas like La Jolla, Del Mar, Encinitas or Carmel Valley AC is a must?
How hot does it really get in the summer? Weather.com says it doesn't reach 90's but that doesn't seem right, is it???

Thank you!!

I have lived in north county san diego for a few years now...and I have never used my AC. During the hottest months of august and sometimes september you would def. need a few fans if you dont have AC in del mar, la jolla and encinitas. But it usually always cools down at night. Carmel valley may get a bit hotter though. You may want to have it there. But seriously you CAN live here without it. Its not like vegas or Pheonix where if you dont have AC you would literally get like heat stroke.

You will have some uncomfortable afternoons, but in the areas you mentioned, you don't actually need A/C. However, you may find that on some days in August and September you will want it, and for those limited days a window unit will do the trick. Otherwise, just use fans - and pay 90% less.

Both KP and cnkad are pretty dead on. I will add that without AC, you will have a few nights where it won't cool down as much as you'd like to be able to sleep comfortably.

You don't need it. Most days (not right now-brrr) you won't need AC or Heat.

It probably depends on your tolerance for high temps. We need it (living on the Encinitas/Carlsbad boarder about 10 min east of the beach) for medical reasons.
