Height depends greatly on the season. Everybody knows we're taller in winter. In summer, dehydration makes our joints dry out, and we shrink. That's why people who live inland are shorter. And don't get me started on moon phases and tides. Coastal people are taller at high tide. Less gravity. So it's quite complex. San Diegans can easily lose or gain an inch during the day as they travel between the coast and the mountains.

I noticed I'm much slimmer on a good high tide.

OK. On the off chance the OP is asking a serious question . . .

Yes, I think San Diego people are short. I think people everywhere are short.

Why?

Because I am taller than average for my gender.

I'm not asking about the coastal places like Pacific Beach or anything because people near the coast are taller. This is the same in Orange County where people in Newport and Huntington (white people) are very tall and inland white people are slightly shorter in like Irvine and Anaheim.

So I'm asking about more inland San Diego, outside of the beaches, would you say they are taller in general or shorter?
It's called a California King for a reason. People are taller in California; San Diego is in California; people in San Diego are tall.

I don't think the question is as bizarre as it seems. Leadership positions in many fields seem to be staffed by people who are average to taller than average in general. Not all, but generally speaking. Since leadership positions oftentimes equals a higher salary, it would follow that the population living in an expensive area would average somewhat taller than the population living in an area with a lower COL. The coast vs inland might illustrate this.

How do you explain a community like Poway, Scripps Ranch, throw in a few other pockets of East County.

Although I always get the feeling you have to be 6' or greater to hang out in Encinitas.

Not so! I'm a hair over 5' 10" and haven't been run out of town yet.

Some people are taller others are shorter
