I rented to someone who was a non-traditional tenant. She knew she had bad credit background and said she would pay a year's rent in advance. It worked for me. No problems with her for the past 4 years.

That has got to be one of the funniest Craigslist rental ads I've seen. I love the Teddy Bear and the guy in the wheel chair looking longingly in the door. Crazy thing is, it's probably already been rented to someone.

Gosh, what a crazy predicament you are in!

Just throwing this out there since I don't know the entire situation but have you tried to acquire a loan to purchase? There are some great lenders out there who may be able to help you and then you can buy a place that fits your needs and your budget. I have worked with quite a few people who have had 'life' happen to them and it works out....

Good luck!

If you rent in Riverside County, the only space that will be your "own space" will be your car. Outside of sleeping and work, virtually every other moment will be spent driving to and from work.

Given your situation, you'll need to find a Granny Flat or 4plex that was built in WWII or the 50s. More likely to be rented by a small time landlord. And promise and deliver 6 months or more of rent in advance. Look in neighborhoods like Normal Heights or City Heights. Maybe you'll get lucky and find something in North Park, South Park or Golden Hill, but I doubt it. If desperate, East Village near where the homeless congregate?

My old slumlord in City Heights has three duplexes that he's "rehabbing," and he doesn't do credit checks. He's only interested in the money, so he can take vacations.

One of my friends finally got out of there after four years of hell. The slumlord called her at work, and said that he needed to get in right away to look for a leak (actually just being nosy), and turned off her water for two days. When she complained about it, he gave her a 60 day notice.

If you can put up with the crap that goes on with the manager, so your own basic maintenance, and change your locks, you can live there.
