Me and a few buddies of mine are looking at planning a trip to northern Baja in November. We are using a San Diego pbased company for a 2 day guided offroad motorcycle tour. The general description of the tour is to meet in Tijuana, travel to their facility and begin riding to Santa Veronica area for the night. The following day we would return to Tijuana and back to the US.

We've read the travel warnings on travel.state.gov, which sound pretty clear that it's a bad idea, and I've had plenty of family/friends (even some from Mexico) that say it's a bad idea. But when I look around forums of people in the area, they say it's pretty safe and the media has over-hyped it. But we are going to be 5 white guys on late model dirt bikes riding around the back roads near the border, so it's not exactly keeping an inconspicuous profile.

Would any part of the trip "raise any red flags". Any insights on the safety of a trip like this?

We live full time in northern Baja, outside San Quintin. My suggestions are to plan well, travel in a group, make an itinerary and leave it with family friends, carry a SPOT device and set predetermined check in times.

And have fun - take lots of photos!

PLan your trip carefully, stay in a group and avoid cutting locks on closed gates.
