What is the current market like for classroom teachers in the San Diego area?

I moved to CT 7 years ago (when the whole country was talking about teacher shortages) with a BA and MA in education, and discovered that the teaching market in CT is over-supplied with elementary teachers. Principals were and are receiving 100+ applications for positions.

There are exceptions in areas like special ed. and bilingual ed. where there is great need. So, because I speak Spanish, I went back to school-again-and I am about to finish my coursework for a bilingual endorsement.

Are there CA jobs for teachers in regular classrooms? Are there jobs for bilingual teachers? Does CA require bilingual certification or TESOL/ESL or either?

Thanks!

How familiar are you with the current state of CA's finances? San Diego Unified predicts a 50 million dollar shortfall this year. There are still jobs, and bilingual spanish teachers are always in high demand (especially in tough, inner-city schools), but be realistic: get a teaching job right now would be exceedingly difficult.
