I negotiated a salary successfully. I let them know I was interested, but disappointed in the figure they had offered and they got back to me with a bump up.

Hi Dan,

I didn't get a chance to reply to this thread yet. Congrats on the job offer! I would suggest you take the job, even though the pay is less when you compare it to cost of living and the last place you lived. Ask them how often they give promotion's/raises. A lot of company's out here offer less to start out, as a way to have a probation period to see how great of a worker you really are. My husband started out considerably lower in pay than his position in MN, but during the first 3 months he was given 3 raises.

When we first moved here he did negotiate an extra $2 in pay from his retail job, so it is possible, but being this job offer is more in your field, I think you should definatley go for it, show your a great employee and go up from there. You could talk to your employer about re-evaluating your job performance in 90 day's for a promotion.

Good Luck! Let us know if you accept!
