Hi,
I need to get to a DMV for my written test (CA license). I live in the East Bay Area and with WC office being closed and Concord office not being close to BART, I am contemplating head to the Oakland DMV (OAKLAND, 5300 CLAREMONT AVE, OAKLAND, CA). I plan to take BART to Rockridge.
Appointment will be in the morning – is this area ok and walkable alone (safe)?
Thanks,

if your first time in the area i encourage you to check out the rockridge market and some of the restaurants in the area.
like the rockridge cafe on college ave for some challah french toast or an omelet.kind of a greasy spoon but good food.

Rockridge Cafe is great.... but Zacharies Pizza? I just picked a half baked up for tonight.... mmmmmmm.....

Yeah -- that area is fine. You will be walking over a mileround trip, so wear your comfy shoes. And good for you for making an appointment. I just did two things at Oakland Coliseum DMV and the no appointment line was out the door and around the building.

And I have to go back...

There were a couple, but none recently, of early morning robberies of commuters walking to Rockridge BART between 6-9 in the morning. Last time, if memory serves was 1-2 years ago. If you have any concerns, walk down College to Claremont which are the main heavily trafficked through fares. Otherwise, you can walk down Shafter, which is the bicycle route, to Cavour to Claremont. If you want to be more adventurous, there is a paved trail at Hudson and Claremont (Frog Park - for kids) that runs between houses along a dry creek, directly to the back of the DMV.

Hi, anyone call tell me (or post a link) on how I can make payments at this particular DMV? Do they accept Debit Cards, Credit Cards, Personal Check etc?

THanks,

How are the lines and service there? I live pretty close to it. The San Francisco DMV is like an extension of hell, I had to sit there for 7 hours just to get a photo ID.

I was just at Claremont (Thursday), the wait was not bad, and the lines move along at a good pace. They process everyone coming in right away, then you sit and wait. I waited for about 45 minutes.

They do not take credit cards, but debit cards are OK.

The lady who assigns you a number was pretty mean, but the other people were nice and helpful.
