Good question. It was gorgeous. Reminds me of Sante Fe Depot in San Diego c. 1918.

They were both built around the same time from what I've read.

It's been gone a long time. Preservation of buildings is a hot topic in the Bay Area with pros and cons. FWIW, if it wasn't for the Preservationists, there would be the 280 freeway running down 19th through GG park to the GG bridge as well as the Central FWY running through Filmore, Pac Heights and the Marina as well as the Embacadero Fwy running along the waterfront. That was stopped in the early 60's and why the freeways all end abruptly and empty onto city streets.

I agree that the SP depot should have been preserved. I'm glad SD didn't lose the Santa Fe Depot. It's nice taking the train from a historic building like that.

It is and it's still in use and maintained which is nice.

What was the old 16th street station in Oakland? I only went there once as a kid then they tore it down and put in the one at Jack London Square.
