Do the hills block the view or is there a certain direction you're supposed to look towards?

From the California State University, East Bay website:

Quote:
Cal State East Bay's beautiful and spacious Hayward Campus overlooks San Francisco Bay from its location high in the East Bay hills. The campus boasts panoramic views of the bay and its bridges as well as the surrounding cityscape and terrain.

And a few quick pics from Google:

You should be able to see SF in the distance on a clear day, but it would be very far in the distance. I walk the Hayward shoreline and it has nice views of the bay and off in the distance, SF.

This is a pic from my cell phone, both the Oakland airport and SF can be seen in the far right of the pic.

Not really. You can from Ohlone College in Fremont though on a clear day.

Not really what i was looking for :/ was hoping somebody would capture a fairly zoomed in shot.

I ask because i noticed the campus was on a tall hill overlooking the bay. Kinda curious how the buildings angle up making the skyline different from your typical postcard/google search image.

Looking at the terrain view on Google Maps, there doesn't seem to be anything between CSU East Bay and downtown SF that would block the view, so you should certainly be able to see it**. You can clearly see downtown from the San Mateo Bridge, and it's slightly north of that...You can see downtown SF from much further south (dumbarton bridge and parts of Fremont/Newark, such as Coyote Hills), as well - giving me confidence that you should be able to see it from CSU East Bay.

The City is still going to look far - it's not going to be a close in view like you get further north in Oakland and Berkeley - but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to see it on a normal clear day.

**I haven't spent much time on the campus, though, so I'm not sure what the best part of the campus for a view would be - but it looks like the stadium and baseball field (on the west side of campus) would provide the best viewing opportunities.

Edit - I found a few pics that look to be looking towards SF - you can kind of make out where the City is in the photos (right side of pics). These are wide angle shots, so you'd need a more zoomed in view to make out the City well in a photo (I'm sure the City appears bigger in person as wide angle shots make things appear smaller than they are in real life):
