You should live in Oakland near lake Merritt. If you live and work close enough to Bart your commute will be about 35 mins each way on the train. Driving on 580 from Oakland to Pleasanton doing the reverse commute won't be bad either. WC is for young childless married couples and rich old folks. Nightlife there is overrated

Yeah it's really more like what I see in San Diego -- kind of douchey, lots of dudes with waxed eyebrows wearing expensive unbuttoned shirts, plus girls with high heels and cleavage, and a decent contingent of cougars. Definitely not hipster. Just depends on what the OP is looking for I guess.

Okay, never noticed that before.

But yes I do find it similar to San Diego and certain neighborhoods in SF (North Beach, Marina, Polk St)

Definitely not hipster.
Thank god for that. A lot of Oakland/Berkeley residents have trouble comprehending not everyone likes the urban hipster bar scene.

I think you might be overestimating the interest in hipsters. I go to bars with interesting cocktails and friendly people. Those are non negotiables. No hipsters required.

I am on my phone, please forgive the typos.

I just did the drive and Walnut Creek will be a nightmare. I saw all the apartments with garages off of 580 in Dublin. It looks like a good place to live. I was wondering where all the people that live there go out to because there is a ton of new housing in that area and all I saw was a BJ's. Anyone have an opinion about the Ironhorse trail apartments?

Dublin doesn't really have a downtown or any place people hang out. Maybe consider Livermore, which has a nice downtown area with some bars and restaurants. Happy hours is a good way to meet people if you are in to that, and there are plenty of young people who live in the tri valley area, it's just a matter of finding them. My own kids and theri friends go out locally, BART to SF and even drive over to San Jose depending on what they want to do.
