No kidding! Times have changed. Some people around here who long ago paid off mortgages and raised kids still think $60k is good money.

Consider las Vegas. Cost of living cheaper and just HOP a plane to bay area to visit. For short living funds BUS company is hiring along with many casinos. Get your degree at unlv and then move.
