The older condo conversions in Adams Point tend to be a little better constructed (in terms of noise / insulation) than the new stuff.

I assumed before the older construction wouldn't be as well insulated, but come to think of it- that makes sense. Like older furniture is also better constructed compared to today's throw away furniture.

What year do you think is the cut off where we start moving into poor construction? 1980?

Lots of Oakland is lath and plaster which is better than wall board for sound.

Helped a friend convert a building near the Lake in 1985... several inches of lightweight concrete were poured on the all the floors for fire and sound... made a huge difference.

Inside, lathe and plaster were kept wherever possible because of the ornate details...

I own a small apartment from 1966 and sound has been a problem... ended up covering the beautiful hardwood floors with commercial pad and premium carpet... that plus floor to ceiling drapes made a tremendous improvement... I really hated to cover those nice floors!

I am in a 1966 building, and it is fairly quiet. I generally never hear my neighbors other than plumbing in the bathroom.. .... and loud people with windows open echoing in the ally. In the hall occasionally you can hear a bit of noise, but it doesn't translate into the building.

My windows are single pane, so I can hear some outside noise, but that is par for the course. I generally keep the windows open all year.

Mid 80s is likely about right.

I've got hard floors and many of my neighbors do as well...
