I have lived in San Francisco for almost 4 years. I moved here after living in LA off and on for 13 yrs. You can show me all of the numbers you want, but it is much colder up here. My wife grew up in LA, and she is so spoiled on LA weather that she had a hard time adjusting. I grew up in NY, and my wife and I lived in Chicago for a year. Make no mistake about it, the weather is WAAAYYYYY colder up here!

You guys are ignoring the part about SF being cool year round, which I cant stand. Say what you want, but Im a fan of the whole summer warm weather, bbq, girls in bikinis thing, and SF doesnt give you that vibe

Nah, I lived in the LA area 20 years and here for 13. It's cooler here but not "WAAAYYYYY" colder in the winter. One could make the argument that with there being more moisture here it can seem colder but that's more of a perception. Summer on the other hand I would agree is much nicer here. Nice 'n' mild.

It is a beautiful city but we could use some more trees who knows how much that would cost though? That's why I like the sunset at least you can walk a couple blocks to the park and get your fill of trees. But hey this is a city not the country that's how it goes but I still think this is one of the most beauiful cities

San Francisco is my favorite north american city. Not only is its setting beautiful but so is the city. Its so dense and urban which makes it so beautiful. Its charming, the architecture is beautiful, the vegetation is beautiful. I can go on and on.

LA is NOT just "a bit" warmer than SF. Those temperatures posted are averages. My experience living in SF and going to LA a lot is that LA is warmer all year round, and not usually by 4-5 degrees. You cannot compare the weather - LA, IMO, has perfect weather much of the year. SF does not.

In winter, I'm sure SF is warmer than many inland areas of LA because of the regulatory effect of the ocean. It's not constant just because of latitude.

I agree with the original post. I lived in SF for a few years and could never understand the raves about it being a beautiful city. As you said, the vistas from certain places are very nice, but close-up, many of the neighborhoods aren't attractive, in my opinion.

I love old, traditional neighborhoods, but as a pedestrian in SF, what you see at eye-level as you walk the neighborhoods is one garage door after another, with little or no greenery in front of the homes or along the sidewalks.

I live in Palm Springs now. Most of the city has attractive landscaping, and I find that this affects my mood in a positive way, unlike the way I felt living in SF.

How come the East bay hills are green compared to the Peninsula or the Marin Headlands ... Plus, the effort to really beautify the city is missing.

Case in point:
1. Some islands like Red Rock, are pure ugly. I know it's privately owned, but the city should buy it back and do something to beautify it or get rid of it ...

2. How about something like 'Christ the Redeemer' in San Francisco on one of the hills like say Mount Tam ?

3. The bums in the city are a big problem

4. The city is not kept clean at all. It seems there is a lack of hygiene awareness to keep their city clean. Last week I saw a man constantly spitting around made me wanna slap him. A couple of weeks back, I saw a guy urinating. C'mon ....

5. How about planting much more palm trees ... Why does SF have way less palm trees than LA?

6. Require more trees on all the hills to make the houses seem to come out of trees rather than concrete ... that will make the city look beautiful.

7. Why are all the rooftops of the single houses flat? All single houses should have /\ rooftops instead to beautify the city.

8. Public transport: Give me a public transport that'll get me anywhere in the city without having to rely on other services. And also make transport like BART cheaper ...

We already have the big rainbow flag near in the castro.

Agreed

Clean compared to what city? San Francisco is much cleaner than Minneapolis, or Detroit, or Chicago. Seriously, what are we comparing it to - it's a freaking city, people will urinate on the streets and God forbid, spit.

5. How about planting much more palm trees ... Why does SF have way less palm trees than LA?

To give the city character - SF is not LA and never will be.

6. Require more trees on all the hills to make the houses seem to come out of trees rather than concrete ... that will make the city look beautiful.

Your opinion on aesthetics...

7. Why are all the rooftops of the single houses flat? All single houses should have /\ rooftops instead to beautify the city.

I love the style of architecture here - especially the flat topped houses/tile roofed - reminds me of a mediterranean village.

8. Public transport: Give me a public transport that'll get me anywhere in the city without having to rely on other services. And also make transport like BART cheaper ...

SF has fantastic Public transport ~ although some might argue Chicago and New York take the cake in that department..

I think you're nitpicking a bit You live in a fantastic city.
