A 600 sq ft, 1 bedroom house at 1321 Bryant St. recently sold in Palo Alto for $5 million. Trulia had valued the house at $1.7 million. A neighbor living next to the house and co-founder of E-trade bought the house and apparently has plans to tear it down to enlarge his yard.

Breaking news: the filthy rich can afford to pay whatever it takes to get what they want.

That's not really that high for Palo Alto. Median listing price is $4 million, and that's in the most desirable part.

For a 1 bedroom 600 sq foot house, it is not normal.

My apartment is bigger than it.

But it's not in Palo Alto. The lot is what's selling, not some crappy 1950s shack ranch. It'd sell for more if it there wasn't anything there because they wouldn't have to spend whatever small sum of money it takes to demo the house.

Even in Palo Alto that has not been a traditional price. I'm not saying it surprises me as nothing regarding Bay Area real estate surprised me anymore, but that is simply not a "normal" price. That's all I'm saying.
