East Bay Express had an article on this two years ago:

http://www.eastbayexpress.com/oaklan...nt?oid=3745213

And they concluded then what Jade learned just now: the problem is there's no legal, efficient, economical way to get rid of bulky stuff if you live in a multi-unit building.

Wherever Recology does business I believe they offer a few times a year where you can put out larger items at no charge. Obviously would want to group a bunch of items together in one shot to maximize the benefit.

It is a problem and one that can be seen all the time.

Residents from other communities dump in Oakland and I have caught several... one vacant home had people dumping all the time and I got fed up and the police did actually showed up... it was a retired man from San Leandro that got busted.

It costs a lot to properly dispose of things... I pay the garbage bills for Oakland rentals and the costs continue to escalate with more restrictions.

Anyway... for things like furniture... a sawzall will break it down to manageable pieces... over time.

My neighbors are great and if someone has extra... we will disperse into as many cans as required.

Don't forget the one 3 cubic yard pickup included with most residential garbage service....

There is/was also a plan to ask for a quote for additional items...

My 101 year old neighbor had a few extra things to get rid of... she is the same one that always has a cold soda for the driver on hot days... and mostly very little trash... the route man simply tossed the extra on the truck...

So know you route man is another option.

Oakland has a huge problem with non Oakland residents leaving their crap in Oakland because they don't want to pay. Especially in the hills. Someone in our hood went through a bunch of crap a few weeks ago, found the homeowners address and sent them some very nasty communications with a threat to sue and call the police. We live in EOakland hills. The offender lived in Albany.

The came out the next day and hauled their crap away. I hope to the dump.

It's not just garbage... it's pets too.

I was walking near golf links and a woman pulled over, open the door and let out two cars and drove off.

Same area.

That's such a shame.

Please do not "DUMP" in Oakland, it is a HUGE problem. Kudos to the people who have positive suggestions on this thread! Dumping is highly illegal, and you can actually get a reward for reporting the swine who do this! Some people take pride in where they live.
