I made an appointment with a veterinarian to take my pets. Is it normal for them to be booked for 2 months? I was looking on Yelp and it seems like many vets in the area are booked well in advance.

It's not typical, but it's not unheard of for a new patient/client for a routine visit. On the bright side, they are likely to be booked up that far in advance for a reason. If you can't wait, there are plenty of offices with good, solid vets who are not that hard to get into. I'd say if you are flexible about days and times (weekends and evenings are, of course, harder to book) you should be able to get into most practices within a week for a routine appt.

I've never had to wait 2 months for any of my pets. When I've adopted my dogs from the shelter, I've always gotten an appt. within the week for an initial general health exam.

I had a puppy, 10 weeks old, by the time I got to see a vet, he was 4 years old. I kid, I kid.

If you have a car, I would highly, highly, highly recommend Oceana Pet Hospital in Pacifica. It's worth the drive if you live around San Francisco or Peninsula, their doctors are very good, the facility is incredibly nice and their prices are very good.

It was a few places I called around. Walnut Creek, Mill Valley, and San Carlos. I need a specialist. I read on yelp that it's normal to be booked in advance. In any case, I asked them that if someone cancelled, to please give me a call.
Thanks for everyone's responses.

Specialists are a different ballgame - if it can't or shouldn't wait 2 months, a call from a referring vet explaining why can often help you get in earlier - can you ask your regular vet to run interference?

There can be a wait for a specialist, but 2 months sounds excessive. What type specialist is needed?
