In what respect? Much of Oakland is pretty suburban, with many single family house neighborhoods. Also there are large industrial areas. That is totally different than anywhere in Manhattan. If you mean that housing prices are going up, then that is true, but it is true of the entire Bay Area.

Yes. Oakland (more specifically West Oakland) was once considered "Harlem of the West" in that it was an important African-American middle class cultural center. In the 1930s and 1940s, 7th Street was home to a plethora of black owned businesses and music venues - similar to Harlem at the time. The Fillmore District in San Francisco was also very similar at the time.

And Oakland is a toilet as well. Overpriced. At least Harlem was cheap and next to Manhattan. Oakland is next to another overpriced toilet, the great city of San Francisco.

Well I lived in Morningside Heights too as a student and it was nowhere near what your description is. And Harlem has always had some very stable, nice sections such as Hamilton Heights and Striver's Row. It, too, is becoming gentrified in recent years.

IT sucked ass in 1990 when I too went to college there. I saw plenty of people get knifed near the park.

I don't think you understand how to make an effective argument. It's an undisputed fact that there are some very nice areas of Oakland and San Francisco that are quite desirable. So, your sweeping generalized statements are rather unbelievable and a bit on the dramatic side. It takes away from your credibility.

Wouldn't the following statement be much more effective:
There are parts of Oakland that resembles a toilet and are overpriced. At least Harlem was cheap and next to Manhattan. Oakland, on the other hand, is next to another overpriced city that also has some parts that are like a toilet, the great city of San Francisco.

You see, it's more believable, and you get a much more effective dig in against Oakland and San Francisco. I cleaned up some of your grammar, too. You nailed your third sentence (At least Harlem...), good job on that one. You're welcome.
