Hello fellow neighbors

I'm in need for a nanny for my 2 kids and I'm interviewing two tomorrow.
However, I'm clueless on how much should I pay them.

Job will be four hours a day with some driving to/from after school activities and summer camps. Mostly from 2 to 6 pm.

How much should I offer them to pay?? And how about gas mileage?

Any comment will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Autumn

Hmmm how much to compensate the person you are going to in trust with the lives of your offspring? Will they be operating their own vehicle when they are transporting your precious snowflakes to and from extracurricular activities? You might want to make sure you are paying them well enough to keep their vehicle in proper working order so they aren't careening down the road in a deathtrap with your little angels in tow. Just playing devil's advocate.

Yes! I just need to know an estimate of how much moms pay. 20? 15? 30?
They'll be driving their own vehicle. How much should I offer them for gas?

Just make sure the kids are not abused. I saw a nanny in Orinda abuse the kids weekly when she thought she was alone. You would probably be better staying at home with the kids.

Mmm...what kind of people are participating in this forum? I thought I'd get some advice from professional moms like myself but I only got two weird comments.
Alrighty, thank you anyway :/

In our less expensive area, I know one family paying 25/hour with use of one of the family cars for errands. They have a nanny cam installed. When we left the Bay Area in 1993, we were paying $10/hr for college student sitters.

Thanks. That makes sense.

$15/hr maybe a little less if it's under the table.

Where do you live? In the inner Bay Area (SF, Oakland, Berkeley, surrounds) you will pay $20-$25/hr for two kids; sometimes a little more if it's part-time or a little less if it's a student vs. a professional nanny. No clue how much it is on the Peninsula but I imagine at least that, and possibly more. Further out from the cities and YMMV. For use of his/her own vehicle, the easy way to do it is to calculate the mileage and then use the IRS reimbursement rate (54 cents/mile for this year).
