I do t know which ones are NOT strong, but UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Cruz are all highly regarded for their CS degrees. I’m sure Cal is, also, but much more challenging to get into.

Computer Science fortunately is a pretty egalitarian field - it's about what you can do as opposed to the name degree.

Whatever school you attend - make the most of it. Get practical experience to strengthen your skills and problem solving.

Why go to a UC when you can go to a CSU for less? UC Berkeley has good electrical engineering/computer science programs, but so does Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Cal Poly is cheaper, SLO is a nice college town, and there is strong name recognition due to its proximity to Silicon Valley. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges...erall-rankings

If you stick with the UC system, general public perception is not as good for the Riverside and Merced campuses.

I'd add SJSU for being even closer to the big tech firms - who hire lots of their grads. CP SLO is actually quite selective (around 30% acceptance rate) so it's no walk in the park.

UC Riverside, Merced, and Davis (to a lesser extent) get made fun of since they are "inland" for those entitled ones that have to be by the "big city" or beach. 2018 US News Public/Overall ranks for Riverside are #58/#124 (tied with University of Arizona) and Merced is #85/#165...not bad for brand new school. UC Riverside is that fastest growing UC of them all for a reason at 25,000 students now projected at 40,000 students in the future (the size of Berkeley and UCLA) and Merced rapidly improving. They will keep getting tougher to get into each and every year...you will receive a FINE education at ANY UC!
