Now it's the hottest ticket in town. And Golden One hosts all sorts of other events. It's just NBA but it really helped clean up a couple really decrepit blocks. The new arena had been a huge asset. Look at how much downtown SD has changed since the 90's after the Padres invested in it. Oakland fumbled the bag with the A's.

Does uncovered MLB document suggest Giants shouldn’t have kept South Bay territorial rights?

None of that stuff matters now. Too much grasping at straws in The Bay Area. Look how fast Vegas is getting streamlined, pretty much as fast as the Kings in Sacramento with their new arena.

The problem in Oakland is the same problem in SD. It's the people. They voted for morons and now they are getting a return on investment. It's a shame Fischer was allowed to squat on the site for so long. It cost Oakland the Raiders and Warriors too.

The worst of all is nothing will change for the better. Oakland will still mostly be a shyte hole, just now with no sports teams.

Congrats to the A's!

Looks like the deal is all but done.

Ten years ago, heck even five years ago, I would have tried to argue against a post like this in earnest. Now? Yeah, well... LOL

Do you think you were just idealistic, wore rose colored glasses, or that things just went south that fast? Probably a combo of all three.

Oakland fan: Nevada-Fisher partnership doesn’t makes sense, would end disastrously

When Fisher, with managing partner Lew Wolff, purchased the team for $180 million in 2005, they constituted the third richest ownership group in all of baseball. Yet despite that tremendous wealth, the A’s never re-signed a player to a long-term contract in the past 18 years. Not one. In fact, the A’s remain one of only three franchises to have never signed a player to a $100 million contract. Ever. Instead, fan favorite star players in Oakland would be regularly shipped out for cheaper prospects or allowed to walk in free agency.

Payroll under Fisher, with a couple of exceptions, regularly sits between 26th and 30th in the league. This season, the A’s are more than $100 million below the league average.

This is simply not true and we know it is not true because there’s another sports franchise owned by Fisher and fronted by Kaval that made the same bogus claims eight years ago.

In 2015, Fisher’s San Jose Earthquakes secured a new Major League Soccer stadium. Since it opened, Earthquakes payroll ranks middle of the pack or worse and their best year they finished 12th overall without a single winning season. Their attendance is frequently below the league average or considerably worse.

I moved to Oakland in my early 20s which required a fair amount of fearlessness and optimism. I had heard horror stories (which didn't seem true at all) and that SF was superior in every way, but I found the City to be a little overrated with worse weather, and Oakland had a really fun vibe so it quickly felt like "home." I genuinely saw a lot of potential in Oakland, and I definitely witnessed the city see drastic improvements up until around 2018-2019. After the pandemic, things actually seemed worse then during the thick of it (Floyd violent protests aside), and my spouse and I just had seen enough to decide to bail entirely on the state of CA.

So I guess, yeah, a combo of all three. Bay Area lifers always seemed to be the first to put Oakland down and I could never put my finger on why. I guess it took about 15 years to truly see the highs and lows for myself, but the city government and seemingly clueless voters seem to be inextricably intertwined, which is unfortunate. Thankfully it's no longer my problem, nor a source of stress in life.

I really hope Oakland and SF can get it together, but life is too short to sit around and wait for everything else around you to change for the better. Best of luck to the Bay and CA-- they're going to need quite a bit of it.

Don’t believe John Fisher’s propaganda: A’s fans are the best in baseball

Looks like the ballpark won't be ready until 2027 and the A's will be playing at the Las Vegas Ballpark site in the interim period. Awesome! One of the casinos we go to is Red Rock and it's walking distance to the ballpark. Can't wait! What a fun and intimate experience (it only holds 10,000). And when it sells out, it'll still exceed the crappy average attendance they get in Oakland due to lack of fan support. Sounds like a win-win.
