My wife and I are going to be in San Francisco in June for 3 days. We have already explored the City of San Francisco on previous trips and want to spend our three days doing wine tasting up in Napa Valley and I am looking for recommendations on Hotels and vineyards to check out. Are there any special tours we should investigate that wouldn’t necessarily break the bank? Any good recommendations on places to check out or websites to visit to help plan this excursion to Napa from Raleigh would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for any input!

You should visit the Beringer winery in St Helena. It's only 20 miles past Napa on highway 29. I live on the other side of Napa and always take visitors to the winery. Its a nice ride and a nice place to visit.

My favorite is the Coppola Vinyard. The wine is excellent and it's very cool to see all of the movie memorabelia.

I would suggest Sonoma County. It is a little further off the beaten path, less crowded than Napa, and has many smaller, more interesting wineries that are often free for tasting.

I found an amazing amount of good information on this site:

Here is a map I found of all the wineries in Napa Valley. Bit of an eye opener for me. There are a lot!

We are planning on about a week in the beginning of September - our first trip to SF, and we are hoping to find some excellent ideas for spending out time there also.

Default Oldest wineries

You'll find Gundlach Bundschu & Buena Vista wineries are special because they are among the oldest in the Napa/Sonoma area, about 150 years each. They are off of the beaten path, but then they went in there before there was a beaten path.
Also, Domain Chandon is a must see.

Stay at one of the hotels in Calistoga Springs. It's right smacked dap in the middle of Napa Valley between the winery's. Enjoy and Bon Appetit!
