Deep pocketed investors sign up for Coliseum City - Inside Bay Area

Interesting. I am hesitant yet hopeful of this.

WOW, this is rather big.

Not only because it solidifies the financial viability of the project, but it really deals a blow to those who have vociferously framed the discussion around the idea that Oakland is no longer feasible as a sports town.

Imagine if our team owners had as much faith in Oakland as super rich foreign investment groups.

I agree. This deal I think has the potential to do wonders for that area provided it gets built on spec and doesn't get bogged down in normal city community planning crap that always happens.

Yes for sure.

This time around, the pro-Oakland sports pages online and fb pages should rally support and the streamlining of this.

The opposition groups representing the anti-development people think they speak for the entire city but they don't.

You don't have to be a NIMBY to have serious questions and concerns about this, such as:

1. What will the public's contribution be?
2. Is Mark Davis going to pay off Mt. Davis before asking for any more public money?
3. Why should the public contribute a dime to an NFL stadium that will be used 10 days a year?
4. What demand is there for office and retail at that site?
5. What, given the history of big projects in Oakland, makes anyone think this will be anything other than a giant boondoggle?
6. No one wants to go to baseball games there even if the A's don't move to SJ. Baseball stadia should be downtown.

etc

Downtown stadiums work well. At least here. And in SF.

I think there is a good opportunity to create a neighborhood around coliseum city. It is already well served by transit and freeways with Amtrak, BART and the airport.

Walmart is going well there, and east Oakland is very undeserved by retail.

I prefer downtown parks, but the coliseum is easy to get to, but there is no need to linger. Even if sports teams don't go there, that area is ripe for redevelopment. There is currently a decent amount of industry. And it seems some demand for nicer office space and more amateurish. Even just to serve the existing residents.

I am on my phone, please forgive the typos.

Oakland Coliseum baseball capacity: 55,945
Oakland Athletics 2013 average attendance: 22,337 2013 MLB Attendance - Major League Baseball - ESPN
Oakland Athletics 2013 average television audience: 31,024 Giants, A?s strike out with TV viewers during 2013 season - San Francisco Business Times

So, despite the claims that this burgeoning and persecuted fanbase is staying away simply to spite Wolff and his tarps, the reality is that the total attendance and television audience does not reach maximum untarpped Coliseum capacity. Attendance slightly up and TV slightly down, a largely lateral move.

Oakland really needs to step up its end if they're going to keep playing the poor victims in all of this. The fans who exist claim to be representing many more who don't.

Right because the Coliseum is such a pleasant venue. The Giants were HORRIBLE this season and for lots of seasons in the past, yet for whatever reason even when they're losing, they still have decent attendance. Can't have anything to do with AT&T Park right? Must be because A's fans are inherently less dedicated.
