I smell it too and always feel sick for a couple days after when the windows were open at night. If I don't empty the dog's water dish after a 'garlic night' she throws up. My neighbor's fish tank turns green. I have garlic growing in my garden. It doesn't smell until it gets into the frying pan. This is something else and I don't think it's good. Vector control notifies us my e-mail now when they will spray. It's not mosquito spray then.

I know the smell you're talking about. It happens in different neighborhoods in Sunnyvale every couple of weeks. I'm sure it's gotta be pesticide for plants/trees/shrubs.

Really? You're saying raw garlic has no smell?

If anyone ever has PROOF, please post. But these guesses are a waste of everybody's time.

there was this, that was forwarded to us from yahoogroups:

"Fogging to Suppress West Nile Virus Mosquitoes Scheduled in South San
José

SAN JOSÉ, CALIF. - The Santa Clara County Vector Control District
(SCCVCD) confirmed on 9/11/2012 that adult mosquitoes collected from the
95123 ZIP code area of San José tested positive for West Nile virus
(WNV). The detection of mosquitoes infected with WNV has prompted the
scheduling of a mosquito fogging treatment in the surrounding area, in
an effort to prevent human cases of WNV. Weather permitting; the ground
fogging is scheduled for Saturday, September 15th, at 11:00 pm, and is
planned to last for several hours.

The fogging zone is generally bordered by Blossom Hill Rd., Ave Del
Roble, Coy Dr. and Hayes Ave. on the north; Entrada Cedros, Chesbro Ave.
and Hancock Ave. on the west; Walnut Blossom Dr., Beswick Dr., Cottle
Rd. and Woosley Dr. on the east; and Colleen Dr., Curie Dr. and Los
Pinos Wy on the south. A live map, which includes a 300 foot buffer
around the fogging zone, can be viewed at 2012.09.15 -SCCVCD WNV Fogging in San José - Google Maps.
<http://goo.gl/maps/a79Ig>

Information packets will be distributed in the fogging area on September
14th and 15th, notifying residents about the fogging operation. As an
added convenience, on September 14th and 15th, staff from the Santa
Clara County Vector Control District and the Public Health Department
will be available during extended hours from 7:30 am to 7 pm via a
dedicated phone line/voicemail (800-314-2427) to answer questions and
provide information.

Thanks for the info. This is almost TWO MONTHS after the original post, so it may or may not be the same issue.

Also, note that this is "ground fogging" and not areal spraying.

There's this amazing new invention called a "search engine". Had you been aware of it, you'd have learned that fogging has been done as recently as two days ago, but the most recent in San Jose was 9/29. This was announced, and I was aware of it, even though we don't live in any of the affected areas.

Spraying is done by trucks that roll through in the middle of the night. Kind of eerie. Like they're spraying to keep the population docile and controllable.

In my neighborhood, we occasionally smell the garlic, but mostly it the "j i z z trees". My wife and I wonder who in the world purposely plants those trees. Maybe some people have a fetish for the odor.

Meet the tree that's making your neighborhood smell like Semenville, USA | Westword
