I definetly agree with you.

I'm planning to do the online traffic school after the arraignment is over, is it completely online including the test or do i need to take the test in person?

It's been a few years but the last times I did it online, the tests were also online. That was then...

Everything is online. It takes forever because you have to click through, and it's timed, so you can't just jam through and guess on the questions. It ended up taking me a few days with interruptions and distractions.

Also, the judge will help you and even though I was embarrassed about my ticket and wanted to explain - it really doesn't matter 'cause the judge is just going to give you traffic school and a fine anyway.

Here's all you have to say:

No contest [because I was really guilty and couldn't honestly say "not guilty"]
Traffic school
Thank you

You'll be fine :-)

Default Urgent - Quick Update

Due to family emergency, I'm currently out of USA and will return only by end of April.

I have the court arraignment on Apr 5.

Can I call the court and ask for cancellation citing the emergency situation?

Can I ask a friend of mine to take the courtesy copy and pay the fine in cash to the clerk?

Since trafic school option is there for me, Can I take it since I will return by end april? How long does it take for the online traffic school letter to come after paying the fees? How much time is available to register and take the online course after the letter receipt?

Thanks

Hi, I currently came across this thread any maybe I can add my two cents since I am a police officer myself. Here are some options.

Call the court and they will grant you an extension, that will not be a problem. I would take care of this myself and you really should not depend on a friend to show up to try to take care of the paperwork for you. Otherwise you can be issued a bench warrant for a failure to appear. All it takes is a simple phone call.

If you really just want to plead guilty, call the court and you can advise them that you would just rather pay the fine instead and you will not have to show up to court at all.

If you are looking to just show up to court to get your fine reduced, you can always ask the judge if community service is a option instead of paying a monetary amount. It might be county specific, but if the judge grants that to you, there is usually a set amount of hours that you can volunteer to work off your fine, and it is the discretion of the court as to where you would do this. Hope this helps.

I was able to cancel the court arraignment over phone and got the online traffic school option. I'm back in the US and doing it.

After the final exam, do we need to print the certificate and take it to the clerk's office or is it all online without any court visit?

At the end, it will tell you. Mine always say they will notify the court, electronically. They have it pretty streamlined.

Hello.
I am a non-US citizen living temporarily in Santa Clara area. I got a speeding traffic ticket for doing 58 on a 40 mph zone. The traffic fine came out to be $370. Is there a chance to have the fine lowered if I setup an arraignment? Or is there any other way to deal with the matter? Thank you!
