The San Jose Blog: Saturday Stats: San Jose is the Most Expensive Metro in the US

I think this is a good thing, it means we are more desirable than Frisco.

That's interesting considering condos and townhouses in and around downtown San Jose are about $400/sqft, with parking (high-rise buildings with a view are more expensive), for all of SJ is $450/sqft, and in SF that is hard to find, the median sales price is around $850/sqft (yes twice as much), and that is over all of SF, not just places with walk scores in the 90s.

If I talk to people from SF (or HK or NYC) they seem to think the condo I'm buying is a steal, if I talk to people from Texas OTOH they think it's an absurd price. But seriously in comparison to the peninsula or SF, SJ is affordable, in comparison to the East Bay, especially the outer east Bay in Contra Costa County, probably not at all.

More like likely because there is no work there, we forget, but during the recession a lot of the Central Valley went to double digits, sometimes 20% unemployment, and they are still recovering from that. Jobs affect the housing market big time. People will move to the most boring places for work, check out the rents in Williston, ND, some of those listings can make SJ look cheap.
