San Jose is L.A. without beach and glamour: They're both congested with lots of traffic, sprawling, smoggy, heavily populated, very diverse, high tech capital in case of SJ and film capital in case of L.A., high crime, bland, built out, lots of neighborhoods and lots of multi story buildings

Las Vegas is like Seattle without the ocean and trees.

This is fun.

Victorville is like Santa Monica, without the 10 freeway

LA is actually a fascinating place; not bland at all. Many neighborhoods on the west side are surprisingly dense.

Indio is like Oceanside, without the ocean and the US-101, but with a little higher poverty and very HOT temperatures (120°F, anyone?). But wait, Indio is near a sea... an INLAND sea! How exciting! Oh, wait... that's the Salton Sea. Never mind...

As I've said before, SJ most reminds me of a somewhat cooler, wetter, version of the San Fernando Valley.

Moved here from the SFV six months ago. Traffic isn't nearly as bad in SJ. Also, public school options on the whole are leaps and bounds better here in SJ. Weather is better in SJ, but housing prices aren't even close. Food options are better in SFV.

Nope. SJ is way, way more sleepy and "family oriented" than LA.
