Best neighbourhoods close to downtown Sarasota

Seems like when I show up in town, the temps drop! I spent last Feb here & it was freezing. Nevertheless I fell in love with sarasota. So I showed up here yesterday, and I am sitting here in my condo now, shivering. I WANT WARMTH!!! :-)

I feel for you. It's very cold here, but at least we have good central heating. Oh, and nice heavy coats! Guess I'll bring a coat with me when I come down next week!

wwanderer am wondering if you ever bought. We are looking for a very similar kind of place at the $100k price point. We are headed down to Sarasota later this year & are hoping to buy then. Have used a lot of the info that was posted previously to try to narrow the search down. We will only use the place 1-2 weeks initially as we are still working. Safety/security is therefore a big issue. Gulf gate looks interesting. Thanks

Sorry, I'd forgotten this thread. Yes, we did buy (or at least we close next Friday.) But not in Sarasota. We chose two towns to look at last December, Sarasota and Dunedin.

We spent a day and a half in each, with one day spent being taken around to look at properties. We saw some nice places in Sarasota, but decided we liked Dunedin better. In fact we fell in love with Dunedin.

We did not look at Gulf Gate, since we weren't really interested in gated. We were mostly looking for walkable neighbourhoods. The one area around Sarasota that fitted that bill was Gulf Gate. But we preferred to feel of Dunedin, much more compact, less suburban.

We've chosen a 2x2 condo in a 55+ complex. As I said, we did see some nice properties around Sarasota. You shouldn't have any problem with your budget, based on our experience. We saw one beautiful turnkey place for about $90K.
