I don't do a whole lot of posting on this forum, but I do a lot of lurking. I've been a Florida resident most of my life, and we recently finished building our home near LWR. I work in Afghanistan, and when I am overseas I enjoy reading all of your posts as a way to keep connected to home.

I also try to keep up to date with our local news, and I've been following this story since it was first published a few days ago.

Couple: We were attacked at movies - Crime & Courts - BradentonHerald.com

It looks like it just hit the national spotlight.

Marine Home From Iraq War, Wife Allegedly Assaulted Outside Florida Theater by Teen Mob - FoxNews.com

It's sad state of affairs, and I don't know what it says about our area. Guess it could have happened anywhere, but the fact is, it happened on our doorstep. I do know I'll be getting a concealed carry permit when I get home. I've got to hand it to the guy for keeping it together when he saw his wife get knocked out.

Never was a big fan of Bradenton. But I've only been there a few times. Where we visited, the people were friendly.

I just read another article about it. It states that they were attacked by a bunch of "black youths." Is this movie theatre in a bad area? I'm going to assume probably so.

Yes, it is in one of the bad neighborhoods of Bradenton. Bradenton has plenty of nice parts, but plenty of bad neighborhoods. I stay out of the bad ones.

That wasnt all that bad an area either.. Crime happened, but I dont think anything like this. It might have got worse over time. I lived near that theatre 3 yrs ago.

We used to go there all the time until Lakewood Ranch opened its own theaters. I never felt there was a problem and I'd still go there. I do recall that there was almost always an off duty (I assume) police car parked in front but I assumed that was just a smart move by the owners to deter any kids from acting up. I think this was an isolated case of a bunch of punks.

First of all - thank you for your service to out great country.

I think these little ****s should have additional charges brought against them, like the ones you get for hitting a cop, after all, you are a soldier. Too bad the parents didn't raise these little punks correctly. I guess it will be up society to fix that problem. Get your carry permit and actually carry so you can even the odds. This is terrible that a soldier can return from Afghanistan only to get molested in his home town. I sure wish the paper would have read "Soldier kills attackers".

Go USA!

My girlfriend used to work there & quit last month. The management is never there, the cashiers are all teenagers & it's an extremely isolated property. I'm surprised this is the first incident & it had to be an attack on a marine & his family. Granted, this could happen anywhere but with all the BS I've heard about how well Sherrif Stuebe is running Manatee County, this & other idiotic continuous criminal activity just tells me he doesn't know any more than when he was running narcotics & stood in my house while investigating a neighborhood issue. Might as well turn off the lights & let the blind have a go of it in Manatee county, at least they can hear, feel, touch & smell.

To whomever is advocating arming yourself to "even the odds," I respectfully submit the rebuttal that you would likely be very outgunned anyway.

Are you supposed to arm yourself with a neutron bomb? A street sweeper?

I guess we'll all just have to avoid movie theaters.

Or Bradenton.

Or the US.

If you let the punks control your movement, your circle will become smaller and smaller. I've never allowed punks to bully me - and I never will. Your way of thinking is why we have people afraid in Arizona, in their own home towns. I will be living in Bradenton very soon, we're shopping for a house right now. I will not live in fear or avoid going where I want to go. I was born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago (45 years) and I've seen all types, so I'm no stranger to the wanna be thugs.
