anyone care to share food places that one might normally walk on by and for what ever reason not stop in. maybe its not the most appealing location. maybe the scenery is not the best.

we were at a festival in venice a while back and there was abbq stand set up. looked and smelled great but we had just eaten so i took a menu with the address of the restaurant on it. last weekend we stopped in and got the 4 person family meal. the bbq was great and there was enough for a family of 8. they dont have a website but the info is on this review.
Big Geroy's BBQ & Catering - Port Charlotte | Urbanspoon
not much to look at when going by, its in a strip mall. but the food makes up for what it lacks in atmosphere.

Here are some Marina restaurants to try. If you are not a boater, fisher, or seafood lover, you might just drive on by. I would recommend Johnny Leverocks in Placida for lunch or dinner. We took friends there for lunch one day and they really enjoyed the view of Palm Island, the harbor and the Intercoastal waterway and wanted to go back again. Or take the boat from Leverocks to Rum Bay on Palm Island for lunch. It is a nice boat ride and the atomosphere of the restauarant is casual. You get a view of the beach and the Gulf of Mexico. Gramma Dot's on Sanibel Island is at Sanibel Marina. We go there for lunch with a group of people or family. My Mom's nick name is Dot, short for Dorothy. So she likes to go there.

What does this post have to do with the Original post?
He asked about best kept secret places to eat. . . .
It seems to me that you want to bait him into talking about something you don't want to talk about, by smacking his post.

Move on unless you have a restaurant you want to recommend - that's why I read this thread.

I like the Thai Cafe in Port Charlotte. It is a little old, and it is in a strip shopping center, but it is unique. Many of the wall decarations are originals from Thailand, and so it appears is some of the furniture. The food is quite different than what you normally find in a chinese or japanese restaurant.

englewoods on dearborn st. from the outside it looks like a street bar with 5 small tables. in the back there is a courtyard with alot of tables and on friday and sat nights they have some really good bands. lots of people having fun. food is good, not spectacular like what you would find in ny and nj. but then we arent in ny or nj, thankfully. this place is deceiving from the outside.

i dont really care for japanese or chinese but that sounds interesting. i have had thai and vietnamese and they can make hot mexican seem bland.

the rest of your reccomendations sound interesting also. i was down in punta gorda a couple weeks ago and tried river city grill. not to bad. we went to the charlotte cty speedway and there was a storm moving thru so rather than wait at the track i looked thru restaurants on the gps and that kind of jumped out. not big protions but it was good. i find thats a trait of a good restaurant with quality food. the choice is good and just enough or mediocre and you leave with foam containers of leftovers.
