Google has put itself on the map by funding more than $2 billion in renewable energy projects.
Now the search giant wants to map the amount of sunlight your rooftop receives — and help you decide if it makes financial sense to go solar.

You can now Google your home to see if you should go solar

type your address in here:

https://www.google.com/get/sunroof#p=0

Looks like an interesting concept. I typed in a few homes that own around here and none of them showed up on the map yet. Does anyone else have an address that shows up on here? My guess is that they may start in Cali or close to their headquarters and then expand out, like they did with their mapping system.

The article didn't mention if there would be any type of credit for opting into going solar. I know there are various credits that are offered for having a more energy efficient A/C or an energy saving water heater.

Google funded $2 billion in energy projects.
Google search if you should go solar.
I'll make a wild estimate that when their project is completed, their map will cover 99% of the U.S.
FPL sources to produce electric
66.4% natural gas
22.5% nuclear
6.5% purchased
4.2% coal
.3% oil
.1% solar [and that's with many acres of panels]
How many thousands of dollars will you have to spend [even with my tax dollars subsidizing you] for water heater panels to save $6.00 a month? How many decades for payback?

You live in one of the roughly 35 states with good solar policy.

Does FL count?

Or, use GOOG Earth: find your house and use the daytime/night time view, over 4 seasons and even a novice can tell if one's house roof(roof elevations), are getting splashed by direct sunlight enough of the day/year.

Solar ain't cheap, the install quality varies, and the payback for non-pool houses is 'awhile'.

As a non-full time rez for the past 11 years, I have continually wondered why every community developer didn't install domestic hot water solar or solar fired water tubes, in the initial build, or offer it as a priced up 'option'. It would make sense on nearly all new SFH construction for at least the domestic hot water system as a initial/back up system, and esp for houses with installed pools...

That would mean designing all lots/streets in new development to enhance solar reception
Not something in minds of most developers

My house in TX probably not good candidate
Front faces south and doesn't have roof.line that would capture southern sunlight

Initially neighborhood developed when solar panels likely not approved by HOA
Now state law makes solar panels non-approve item
