We were at the jetty today in Venice and were driven away by swarms of flying bugs. Does anyone know what type bugs/gnats these are? Also, are they seasonal or happen often?

I picked up my grandson from the bus top today and left the car windows open. What a mistake that was, I didn't see them until a few minutes later when I was out of the car and they went inside the car.

They are small yet, they aren't big enough yet to love on each other and smash on windshields. Wash your car as soon as you can if you go through a swarm of them later on. They happen every spring and fall.

They are far worse this year in quite some time. They are harmless but annoying, and their guts are death to the integrity of your vehicles paint job so it's important to wash it off asap. All I can say is at least they don't bite - we have enough of those!

What is biting now? This week at the pool, I've been eaten alive but did not see any mosquitos or anything other than love bugs.

Most likely noseeums. Pesky tiny little black buggers, practically invisible thus the name. Worse by the coast. If you can see one it's a lunker!

I always heard that if you used Vaseline and wiped layer on front of your hood/fenders/roof...
the areas they land on most frequently--that they are easier to take off and the Vaseline does not damage your finish...

Anyone know if that is accurate info?

The fish don't even like to eat the lovebugs..... LOL! We learned they are attracted to sweet things..... we had fruit in our cooler and they went nuts! It was like fighting off a swarm....... we ended up leaving.

They aren't anything more than a nuisance.......and a pain to get off of your car.

Just as quickly as they come....... they go away!
