There are many things to watch out for here..
Can anyone clarify when "icky" seasons start..

When is jellyfish and stingray season and where can they be found? Do we stay out of the water?

And love bug season, when does it start? I know its around June sometime. Ive got snowbird season down! Are there any other "seasons" I need to be aware of, Ive only been here 2 years so I was just wondering..

In previous years, love bugs usually show up at the end of May and September. However, that can vary by a few weeks.

Not sure about the time of year for stingrays, etc. However, you can usually find something in the local paper if they have been sighted. If you go in the water when stingrays are hanging around, you do the "stingray shuffle". Just shuffle your feet as you go in. They will scatter. I do not go in the water at all if there are reports of jellyfish.

Most beaches have flags that report if there has been anyone stung by stingrays. I believe the flag says something like, hazardous marine animals. Like Paula said, do the stingray shuffle and you should be OK. I'm a Florida native and haven't been stung yet. I don't think there is an actual stingray seasons, but more people tend to get stung in the summer months because of the increase in people swimming.

Jellyfish can make welts on you and again, I don't think there is a season for them but more people encounter them in the summer months. Swim at a beach that has the flag warnings and you should be OK.

I'm pretty sure PaulaC is correct with the love bug season, May and Sept. Just make sure you wash them off your car right away so the paint doesn't get ruined.

I think jellyfish and stingrays tend to appear in Aug/Sept, when the water gets really warm, although stingrays can be around any place. If stingrays are in a large group migrating possibly you will see it on the news. I lived in FL 30 years and went to the beach for years to sail on a Hobie cat which requires you to walk into the water to launch the boat and never had any problems either.

The lovebugs are essentially GONE.

Praise the lord, etc.

It seemed they were really only bad for about four or five days this time, but they were VERY bad.
