I ended up subscribing to Comcast "Limited Basic" TV service instead of bothering with an outdoor antenna. Here's why:

1) Comcast has a special for Limited Basic TV service - it's only $10/month. The special is good for 12 months - but I've found that by calling the Comcast "loyalty" department after my 12 month special is over - I can get right back on the same deal for another 12 months.

2) Because I subscribe to a Comcast TV service - I get a discounted rate for my internet service. I get the Comcast "Economy" internet plan - which costs $39.95 if ordered ala carte without a TV package. But because I have the TV service I get the Economy internet for only $26.95/mo

3) I'm really pleasantly surprised with all the channels that are included in the Limited Basic TV service. I just hook the cable directly to my TV (no cable box) and use my TV's QAM tuner to tune in the channels. I get all the broadcast channels in HD, plus SNN local 6 news (this is a Comcast exclusive channel), I get the retro ME channel, THIS (from Tampa), a few local origin channels, Hallmark channel, TCM, both PBS channels WEDU & WUSF and all of the PBS sub-channels, plus a bunch of other stuff. It's really all I need.

My parents did this recently. They had internet only with Brighthouse (In Manatee county), and switched to Verizon for FiOS. After bundling their land lines into the FiOS internet plan, the basic TV package was nearly free. The entire thing was cheaper than they were paying for separate phone lines and Cable internet. I never thought that they'd give up the antenna!

FIOS internet is probably better than Comcast - but it's also more expensive. Also FIOS doesn't have a TV package equivalent to Comcast "Limited Basic" - which can be had by anyone now for only $10/month. Also FIOS does not have SNN 6 local news.

I'm not trying to sell anything - just pointing out some of the differences. For my needs Comcast Economy internet is good enough. I pay only $38.49/mo (includes all taxes & fees) for TV & Internet service combined.

With FIOS you'll have faster internet (compared to Comcast Economy Internet) and more TV channels (compared to Comcast Limited Basic) - however the cost will be much higher than $38.49/mo. So it just depends on what you want and how much you're willing to spend........

Since the original post was about an outdoor antenna - I thought it was relevant to mention that Comcast has a TV plan for only $10/mo - which some people might prefer (compared to getting an outdoor antenna).

Sorry, should have pointed out that my parents are in Manatee county, so Comcast isn't available (nor is SNN). I wasn't trying to sell anyone on Verizon.

My parents were paying something like 55 for basic internet with Bright House since they didn't have TV bundled in. I was trying to make the same connection, that if you have Internet and Phone with Verizon, you can probably get a basic cable package for nearly the same price as Phone and Internet only.
