Gophers and moles. Any good solutions? Ants, too.

Seriously, the only thing I have ever found that actually works on ants is Terro.

I have heard that Oatmeal works well on ants......wait till you have a few dry days ahead...spread the oatmeal - dry and not cooked - around the nest...the little darling will take the oatmeal into their nest and devour it...when they go for a drink or it rains...the oatmeal will expand in their stomach and they will burst...this formula works well with red ants as well...

Are you sure it's not armadilloes digging the holes? They dig at night mostly, sometimes feed during the day, and tend to dig isolated holes instead of the running tunnels you'll see with moles and voles. Also, watch for rabbit warrens... rabbit mommies often keep their babies underground here, it's cooler than keeping them above ground. I have a lot of property and sometimes will find bunny holes in the middle of a huge patch of grass. The giveaway there is the fur at the entrance to the hole.

Good thought, yellfire. After further research I think you are right. We have found two dead armadillos on the property. The last was possibly hit by a car and died in our driveway. Both were grown adults. For the last week we have filled all of the holes and checked in the morning to see any new activity. None for the last two days. Our concern is that many of the holes were around the fruit trees but there too nothing new has occurred. We definitely have moles/voles. The mounds caused by the tunneling criss cross the yard. What to do about them. If we no longer have to chase phantom gophers then I guess we can give full attention to these critters. Thanks for the help.
