I am not quite 50, conservative,love the Gulf,like small towns more than big cities I have 2 teenagers and I don't want them or myself to be bored but am willing to drive half an hour for fun. So what you think Venice or Sarasota?

Venice would be my choice, Sarasota is close enough to visit, shop, go to the beach or whatever and you don't have to be in the thick of things, especially the traffic. Sarasota is city like, Venice is small town, but with a nice downtown area, and plenty to do, IMO.

Venice has plenty of traffic- I drive in it several times a day... the median age in Venice is about 68 whereas Sarasota is about 41. While Venice has that "small town feel" there is much more to do in Sarasota. Sarasota has some really great neighborhoods & is a very versatile city- Beach, Bay, Country, Golf, etc. I much prefer Sarasota to Venice.

I agree, for someone age 50, I recommend Sarasota hands down. When the snowbirds are gone, Sarasota pretty much has a "small-town feel." Pretty much has anything you want. And the beaches in the area just can't be beat.

I would tend to lean more toward Sarasota for you as well but I think both towns are worth investigating.
